Welcome to STOP THE PIPELINE

The City of Greeley (CO) is in its final planning stages for a new 60"-diameter water line (with a 150-foot construction right-of-way) extending from its water treatment plant in Bellvue, through Fort Collins, and on into Greeley. Instead of following existing pipeline easements or road right-of-ways, plans recently revealed to Laporte residents show the pipeline following the historic Stout-Rex Railroad line, which parallels the Poudre River and in some places comes within 10 feet of the Poudre. In addition to destroying cultural and historic resources and important wildlife habitat along the river corridor, this pipeline threatens to interrupt the natural flow of water into the Poudre and the elaborate ditch system that has supported agriculture in the area for well over 100 years.

Residents of Laporte and Bellvue and supporters of the Poudre River are trying to keep this pipeline out of the Poudre River corridor by forcing the City of Greeley to use either its existing right-of-way, or roads to the north of the river. Unfortunately, state law does not require any environmental review of pipelines built with municipal funds, and our own Larimer County has opted not to help protect its citizens and its natural, cultural and historic resources. So it looks like we are on our own.

If you care about the Poudre River, wildlife, natural habitat, historic resources and private property rights, we hope you'll help us.
